Initial meeting
I offer an initial meeting of up to 60 minutes. This is not a counselling session but an opportunity for me to hear why you are considering counselling at this time and what you hope to gain from it. I will talk to you about the way I work, gather some personal information and provide you with a copy of my counselling agreement and privacy notice covering important matters including confidentiality and data protection. The initial meeting is also an opportunity to see if we can work together. Because the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor is a key factor linked to a positive outcome, it is important to find the right therapist for you. It is also essential for me to consider whether I have the relevant skills set and experience to work with your particular needs. If for whatever reason I am not the right counsellor for you I will gladly help you to look at other options.
In person sessions
I offer short and long-term individual counselling and therapy to adults aged 18+. Sessions are usually for 50 minutes and on a weekly basis. I work from a private and comfortable room in Haywards Heath which is also well located for residents of Burgess Hill, Hassocks, Hurstpierpoint, Ditchling and other Mid-Sussex towns and villages.
Online video call sessions
I also offer 50 minute sessions to adults aged 18+ through the Zoom, VSee and Skype video (webcam) platforms generally on a weekly basis too. Video sessions can be helpful for people who are particularly constrained by mobility, geography, time or lack of counsellors where they live. This approach can also be helpful for those who are anxious about face-to-face sessions particularly at the start of counselling. During the Covid pandemic I am working exclusively online. It is essential that you have a private place for these sessions where we can work together without you being overheard or interrupted.
Fees
I charge £25 for the initial meeting and £50 for a 50 minute counselling session. I provide a limited number of reduced rate spaces according to client means and also offer a concessionary rate of £40 to counselling students. Lifespan Integration (LI) sessions generally need a minimum of 60 minutes and the fee for this is £60. Pre-agreed extended LI sessions are charged on a pro-rata basis. All fees are payable by cash or within 24 hours of the session by bank transfer.
Missed or cancelled sessions
If you give a minimum of 48 hours notice you will not be charged for a missed or cancelled session. In the event that I am unable to keep an appointment I will give you as much notice as I can and will endeavour to re-arrange the session. If this is not possible no fee will be charged.
