A warm welcome to my website Pathways Practice
My name is Hilary and I am an Integrative counsellor which means I have trained in a range of therapeutic approaches that allow me to personalise the way I work to meet your particular needs. In addition to these core skills I also use Lifespan Integration, a gentle and structured form of therapy that facilitates healing across a wide range of therapeutic issues and in particular those associated with attachment and trauma. I recognise that taking the first step towards counselling may seem unfamiliar or perhaps challenging in some way. Whatever you might be experiencing right now I commend you for thinking of your needs and wellbeing and the possibility of seeking professional support. I hope you find what you want to know here but if you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email, text or phone.
Why you may be considering coming to counselling
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may want to look at a specific life event or single issue such as bereavement, depression, a challenging relationship, or a traumatic experience. Or perhaps you are feeling misunderstood, trapped, confused or powerless. You might have reached a crisis point and notice that your usual coping mechanisms are not working, giving rise to intense thoughts, feelings, actions or body sensations. Or it could be you are finding it difficult to manage a painful situation in your life that cannot be changed. Sometimes clients know something is wrong but find it hard to describe or pin down. Whatever brings you to counselling at this time I will offer you an accepting, confidential and supportive space where we can safely explore these things together.

Why Pathways Practice
Travelling around the world I have often found myself both literally and metaphorically walking alongside people from different backgrounds, cultures, religions, race and beliefs. The richness of these encounters has fed in to my natural curiosity about people and I treasure the shared “giving and receiving” experienced along these pathways. In our sessions together I will walk alongside you too, aiming to develop a deep human connection that supports and helps you to draw on your own inherent resources to find the pathway forward that is right for you.

Online and in person sessions
I offer short and long-term individual counselling and therapy to adults aged 18+. During the Covid 19 pandemic I am working exclusively online using the Zoom, VSee and Skype video (webcam) platforms and I have several years experience of working this way. I also use a private and comfortable room in Haywards Heath which I will return to once it is safe to do so should you prefer to work together in person at that time.
